I have lived around wicker all my life…mom was early into American antique – in fact the things she collected were more considered junk in the 50’s. I have kept a couple of the chairs – hard maple and a rosewood one (the rosewood had to be imported as it’s not native to the US)…both have caining on the seats…it’s been redone 3 times that I know of…now I won’t let anyone sit on them because it’s near impossible to find anyone who knows the art of caining now to re-do them.
